Warbird Prices: Historic or Intrinsic Value?

After following the very interesting thread on new build Spitfires, I started wondering which is a greater motivator to purchase a warbird.
If money were no object, would you be inclined to buy a warbird because of the history behind a particular example or simply because you appreciate a sophisticated piece of high performance engineering for what it is?
If you were considering buying a "restored" ME109 or Hurricane, would the fact that only a handful of parts were really original ruin your enthusiasm and interest in this aircraft?
