I used to have one of the big packards lying around in the shipping container and assumed it was a PT Boat engine. Last week I was talking with a gentleman who purchases a Higgins right after the war from Higgins and took it up the river to Ohio I believe. He said it was a great trip! He seemed quite up to speed as far as Aviation and engines as he knew a fair amount about OX-5's, Liberty's, Merlins, and Mustangs! He was the one who told me they were a variant of Merlins in the Higgins boats and that is what got my curiosity up.
