What's the use of leaving perfectly usable components outside where they will corrode away of taken away by hill walkers.

Reason I have heard is that the remains serve as a monument for the crews involved. Although I am very much in favour of erecting monuments on site, but not using wreckage for it. This is only a shortsighted opinion.

These remains should be used for restorations or at least put on display and properly documented. They are much more of use then just lying there to rot!

There are still substantial bits and pieces of Whitley, Stirling, Botha, Anson, Hudson, Firefly, Lancaster you name them to be found in the U.K. Suppose you have been looking for that elusive part for your restoration project to bring back a type from extinction, while at the same time that same part is lying in rain, snow whatever only to have it taken away by a hillwalker who throws it away later because it isn't interesting anymore or he/she doesn't know what it is, or let it corrode away in a few decades time.

Start clearing all wrecksites, erect memorials/plaques whatever on the site and make sure the bits are used in rebuilds or given to museums who know what to do with them.

Just my personal opinion of course.

Cees
