Hello all,
I am doing some research on the Hurricane, particularly in Canadian service. I have come across a photo of one on skis. Does anyone know anything about this variant? The website I found the info on was:
http://www3.mistral.co.uk/k5083/PROJECTS.HTM
and here is what they had to say about it:
"Several 12 gun Canadian Hurricane Mk. XIs modified with fixed ski main landing gear and snow shoe tail skid, wheel gear deleted and wheel wells faired over. Packard built Merlin and Hamilton Standard propeller. RCAF service in Canada 1941-43. 5624 (RCAF)"
I presume they mean Mk. XII, but beyond that, does anyone know any more about these Hurricanes? Like how many there were? What were their serials? What squadron did they serve with? Where were they stationed? What were their duties? Why were they on skis when none of the BCATP trainers were on skis?
Basically, any info on these would be appreciated. I am quite curious about this uniquely Canadian variant of the Hurricane.
Thanks,
Charles
