All right I'll step in where fools fear to tread!

I always thought that the "two" Hampdens at East Kirkby are two parts of the same airframe - the nose area was recovered first and was under restoration already before the rest of the airframe (ie the centre section) was secured from the Swedish Air Force Museum - I think this is covered by an article a while ago in After the Battle. Perhaps David Burke could confirm this or make a liar out of me!

The Wellington tail was recovered by the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum along with the wings and is "preserved" outside by Gerry Tyak at Moreton so if it is to be incorporated into anything it probably needs to be done sooner rather than later!

The photos of the Halifax at Trenton shame the RAFM - if they can do what they've done with volunteer labour - why can't the RAFM also have a volunteer programme? Instead they keep restoration in house (with limited resources)or it is contractorised out to a limited number of private companies - there must surely be a willing pool of volunteers with the necessary airframe skills willing to contribute

Wonder how long before we have to whinge before someone listens!

sk - back again!
