Hi
Don't know exactly how many, I know of only another four people who know exactly where it is, none of whom including myself have the resources to pull out a stirling, where would you put all the bits !! It's better in the hole until someone has the time and resources to do it.
She was I think a HCU a/c I have all the details somewhere, codes, serial etc, I believe it was structral failure and she dived in to a very boggy mire type area most of the a/c going in.
The description of the attempted wartime recovery was in a wreckovery article in the aviation news ? many years ago
When visited in the early eighties and after all day digging a small piece of metal, we pulled out a heck of a size panel out, it was like new and hardly fitted ON the car ! the site was tidied up and all surface bits went back in the hole at the request of the park rangers ( the panel went to a local aviation group ) i know from one of the other five it is still untouched to the best of our knowledge. The land owners are a large UK company and are aware of the a/c's existence.
Cheers
jerry
