Hi Paul.

Unfortunately Alderney was cut off from the rest of the Channel Islands, due to the fact that the whole population except for a couple left before the Occupation and also it became the site of three concentration/labour camps.

Meyers Spit could well have been shipped to the mainland, the Germans did in fact ship a Spitfire from Jersey to the mainland towards the end of 1942 beginning 1943. This airframe "EN830 !!!" was used by the Germans to test the theory that the DB engines were a match for the Merlin, they bolted a DB601 into the engine bay and flew it in comparison to Germans types. The results proved nothing more than the aircraft was inferior in all aspects except climb to types fitted with the same engine.

What's your interest in Meyer?

Kind regards

Ian
