The program was hosted by STEVE IRWIN!!! What on earth were you expecting--a guy dressed in a tux on the marble floors at the Smithsonian? Surely you jest!! If you want rivet-by-rivet detail go to your local library. The man has always presented himself as completely unconventional--and "Ghosts of War" did not disappoint.
I spend a big chunk of my day teaching history to teenagers. Mr. Irwin demonstrated infinitely more knowledge about combat aircraft than the average Joe off the street, and he was inspired to make the presentation by the exploits of his father-in-law. Good grief, guys and gals...isn't this the reason we would like more young people to become involved in what turns our cranks...the exploits of our forefathers? ...the machinery in which they faced extreme obstacles--some to make the "ultimate sacrifice," while others survived to perpetuate their fallen comrades' honor and memory??? I'm quite positive the program would pique my students' interest.
(Blimey, etter get me helmet on before you blokes and shirleys begin bashin' me brains in...)
