The Defiant should be taken with a pinch of salt - it may be there is one - although I haven't seen it there is an old sonar trace of a single engined monoplane that looks a bit like a Defiant on the bottom of the Loch. I am sure that the trace is of the same vintage as the scan of the Wellington (R-Robert), and was produced via a wet paper Klein system. Although really useful, these early sonar units aren't really accurate enought to ID the type solely from a scan.

If you look at the original trace of R-Robert, it looks a lot like a Catlina. It was only when the boys from herriot-watt got an ROV down to it that they saw the geodetics and put two and two together. So just 'cos it looks a bit like a Defiant, doesn't mean it is!
