Mick,
The story that the Ki-61 is a Japanese copy of the Messerschmitt is a myth that has been sticking up its head every now and then.
The design of this, for Japanes standards, very modern fighter had nothing to do with the Messerschmitt fighter.
The engine however was a copy of the Daimler Benz, albeit they never could solve the many problems with it, and in general the engine wasn't very reliable.
What way do you manage to get the Allisons out of PNG and where do they come from, dumps, crash sites etc.?
Cheers
Cees
