Endangered Falcon...

The fire within Uruguay's "Museo Aeron?utico" building in December 1997 fully and absolutely consumed several wood and fabric rare aircraft, such as a unique Potez XXV. Metal framework of some others was salvaged, but restoration would
be a long and costly process. There comes a time to "clean the house" and dispose of damaged relics - thus the danger that Curtiss Falcon B2-205 may disappear.

One Curtiss Falcon was preserved, and 205 was a featured exhibit in the Aeronautical Museum that developed in Montevideo. Only one other SNC-1 has survived, at the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida. Then came the disastrous fire, during television filming within the facility.

We can all sadly recall in our region an historic aircraft that might have been preserved, but instead was "recycled". Can B2-205 be saved?

The above was written by Dr. Gary Kuhn, at the www.laahs.com site.

I understand that the remains of the Falcon are for sale.

Yes, a great number of aircraft have been destroyed, no only by fire, but also by other natural disasters, arson, and plain vandalism
