I attended a lecture given by Urban Drew at NASM about three years ago. The aircraft in question was a Bv-238, and had sunk more or less in one piece when he put a lot of holes in it! Anyway, apparently the aircraft was re-discovered some time in the late 80's or early 90's (can't remember now), and a decision had been made to raise it, complate with a TV documentary crew and 'Ben Drew in presence to witness the event. They did some preliminary dives on the aircraft to determine what measures were required to raise it, but found that it had been pretty much hacked apart, with most of the wings gone. Apparently what had happened is that some enterprising individuals some time after the war whom knew of the aircraft's location had used grappling to rip sections of the aircraft up for salvage... really wreaking havoc on its remains. Some of the parts recovered were sold as scrap, and some used to make shed roofs and the like. Anyway, that was the story that Urban told. His lecture was quite amazing too... especially his tale about shooting two Me-262's down in one day (one of the pilots was Walter Nawotny if I recall). Hope this info. helps.

Cheers,
Richard
