Hi Tim,
If what you say is true, and the remains of all warbird wrecks would be sold, and restored, I would be very happy! As I have said before, repeatedly, my concern is with the planes, containing human remains, that will not be rebuilt! The ones that are still out there, or have been recovered in such deplorable condition that a rebuild is not feasable.
Please allow me once again to use Dean's plane as an example. If the Data plate for his plane existed, and someone decided to rebuild his plane, what should we do with all the parts that can't be used, which would be virtually all that remains?
As others have said, we are not just discussing "things", or "machines" or even "property" we are talking about Historical relics. We are also talking about sacrifice, and duty, and so many othe adjectives used to define what these brave souls died for. I will say it one last time.... to profit from that, in the manner in which we have been discussing is wrong.
What I wrote concerning civilian aircraft, was actually concerning large commercial planes, such as Pan Am's wreck in Lockerbee, and TWA flight 800. I do not believe for one minute any insurance company would ever be allowed to sell any piece of those planes in an attempt to recover losses.
I'm sorry, this started as a simple clarification, and I got to rambling again. This issue is so important to me, I can't just say what I mean in a few words. Again, I do apologize for a bit too much rambling.
