Hi Gareth,

I agree with you that it would be nice to see the more uncommon warbird types.

I can only speak for the Dutch situation. During the eighties Fokker in cooperation with the Military Aviation Museum at Soesterberg began a project to build two D-21's. One to static condition and the other to fly. The static example was to prove the drawings, jigs etc. The museum built the fuselage using a Danish or Finnish original fuselage frame as a template, while Fokker built the wooden wing. Unfortunately when Fokker went into liquidation the project stalled and the static airfram only was completed albeit at a very impressive standard (could even be made to fly using a good engine) and it is something to be proud of considering the Dutch aviation heritage.

About two years ago a project was set up at Hoogeveen to start constructing some of the more famous Dutch types including the Fokker D21, this was possibly to airworthy standards, unfortunately within a year the whole project stalled when the backers pulled out.

However, there is a Dutch foundation who have been working for many years now to reconstruct all drawings for the Fokker G-1, with the ultimate aim to construct a static example to factory standards. The G-1 on display at Soesterberg is a full size replica made of wood an made by a furniture factory during the eighties.

In recent years a Fokker D21, G-1 and TV have been recovered by our collegues of CRASH of which the D21 was very substantial with the forward fuselage being restored and preserved. This was a true warbird having shot down some Bf110's after being shot down itself.
