: : Well said Dan Jones!
:
: I think David Jameson has hit the nail squarely on the proverbial head! There is no difference. I've seen many a warbird restoration, including parts of the F4F's recently pulled up from Lake Michigan. When the Wings were finish, only about 10 to 20% of the parts were original Iron-Works product. Does this diminish the aircraft in any way? Hell No! Years ago, I saw the CAF's first aircraft a P-51 get almost totally re-skinned. Again, it's still a Mustang. Like the man said, any WWII ship flyin' today has very few original parts left on it and this does nothing to diminish it's romatic, historic or monetary appeal.
: My reason for raising this question is not to down play th
: e restoration or complete re-build of an aircraft, it is e
: xactly the opposite.
:
: I am a true believer that if a person or group faithfully
: reproduces an aircraft, faithful to the original blueprint
: s, engine(s), prop(s), avionics, etc, add a repo data plat
: e to it, it is a real aircraft.
:
: As most will know, and some not; most combat aircraft were
: just worn out at wars' end, and were simply destroyed on
: location at their bases. The replacement aircraft that ha
: d just come off the assembly line were used as the replace
: ments as they were fresh, especially engines and props.
:
: Most aircraft seen today on the circuit, have very little
: original components left on them. This may be due to seve
: ral things, crashed, corrision, and age, to name a few.
:
: My initial question still stands, I just do not see why th
: e EAA and others do not share the same views.
:
: While I feel the original intentions of the Warbirds divis
: ion of the EAA may have started out as a gathering point f
: or like-minded enthusists, it has been left to the "Warbir
: d Divisions", to pick up the slack.
:
: My most recent case for this is, they won't even respond t
: o my mail with my questions.
:
: Utimately, one of my wishes is for the people who desire t
: o create,re-build, restore, or even re-manufacture these f
: ine aircraft, these faithful few, like myself; not to be d
: eterred from their passion.
:
: We need more of them, both people and planes, not less. I
: f for no other reason, then for the love of these aircraft
: s, or to show their support for the ones who were there.
:
: As a final note, it would be nice if there were better com
: munications between aircraft owners and enthusists. If fo
: r no other reason than the ability to communicate and assi
: st each other.
