I first posted something on this last year, after reading about Elsie and her crash in a book about 617, which also had a tantalising piccie of a Lanc "Stuck fast" in the mud on an island in the Kola Inlet. This Lanc was subsequently abandoned after the fuel tanks, Merlins and other useful equipment was stripped out of it by the grateful hosts.

I then found Piccies of Elsie, on an Arctic warfare site, in fact, the Spec Ops Heinkel wreck piccies come from it.

The site is Certainly regarded as being of historical significance to the locals. As far as I am aware, it is well tended, and more importantly, the bits are left alone, which is often a sure sign of respect.

I think, you will find no one cares Richard, right up until the time u try to remove something from the site.

Everyone likes a little bit of "real" history on their doorstep, I don't see any reason why the inhabitants of Porjus would be any different. If however, you are keen to recover the aircraft, then I suggest flying there, and doing a face to face with the local Mayor, Burgermeister or Town council. Though I suspect, someone else already has, and got turned down.

Best regards
Tony

: NF920 is the Porjus ex-Tirpitz Lanc.I don't know about the
: fact it is a historical area, none of the Swedish authorit
: ies seem to know or for that matter, care.Apparently the S

: Is it possible that the historical bit is a rumour to stop
