In reply top Warbird powerplants can they be built from scratch? posted by Tony on Tue Oct 16, 2001 02:33:02 PM

Hi Tony,

I had been thinking the same idea myself, the engines that are in use now are really getting on it their age and yes they can be zero times etc but metal does go off after time.

Merlins are on the top of my list as so many types use them, but I was looking at producing WW1 engines as building kites to fit them to is not as expensive as rebuilding a Spit ect, and with all the wonderful work Skysport etc have done I think there is a market for them.

I remember that there is an Aussi gent who had produced a lovely little radial engine that could be fitted to WW1 birds, its on sale now, I will have to dig out the web link but I too think there is a market for 'new' engines.

Regards,

Will
