Ron,

It was according to the standards of the sixties I think, but IMHO not considering the magic people can work on battered corroded airframes these days but that is pure speculation. If only they had stored it somewhere.

At least it was complete then. What I understand was that the aircraft at some time was acquired by Graham Trant but apparently it was in such a bad condition that they removed the nose section and one of the undercarriage castings (why just one I don't know). The rest was scrapped. The nose went to the Skyfame museum and then to the IWM.

We all know that when YAM applied for the nose-section for their Halifax reconstruction they were turned down. With all the massive restoration efforts being done by the IWM perhaps they will also start some sort of reconstruction and create another Halifax. At least now it has been closed off for the public that they will completely restore it and fully fit it out in the same conditon as the Lancaster cockpit they are so proud of displayed next to it.

We can only hope can we.
