On 24th August 1960, Qantas' Super Connie VH-EAC 'Southern Wave' was destroyed in a takeoff accident at Plaisance Airport, Mauritiaus. Passengers were injured, but no fatalities occurred. VH-EAC was burnt out with only the tail remaining reasonably intact.
( It is the one accident you rarely hear about )

Other aircraft had been lost in WWII on secondment to the RAAF etc ( but these are not considered as 'accident's' as many airliners suffered the same fate ).

The B747-400 incident you spoke of was QF1 at Bangkok in 1999.
We always refer to the aircraft affectionately at work now as the 'Bangkok Bomber'.
