G'day Richard,
Have just been spending some time looking at all of the Easy Elsie pics on the WIX Gallery, and the website as well. Although I previously just gave full encouragement for your endeavours, I must now strongly suggest that something must be done to help this lady.
Whilst the wreck is obviously shattered, the condition of the parts seems to be quite good. Additionally, some reasonably major pieces remain fairly intact. Yes, it would take a HUGE amount of work to restore her, but she is a Lancaster, and she does have serious wartime history.
Perhaps a good starting point for the project, would be to recover some assemblies, and just initially focus on restoring them. As an example, maybe both vertical tail assemblies. Take them home, and bring them back to health. As you are doing this, attempt to get significant media coverage of your efforts. Someone might realise just how significant and deserving the project is, and offer funding and/or a home for the aircraft.
I believe it has been discussed before, but in which country does the wreck lie? Would recovery issues not be a problem?
You can probably tell that I am now pretty keen that something Elsie gets looked after in her old age. If you wish to reply, feel free to do so on here, or otherwise, send us an e-mail mate. Best of luck, and if I can possibly help in any way, please ask.
Cheers,
Matt
