Hi all,
I have been reading about the Whirlwind last evening including the Battle of Britain then and now publised by After The Battle.
In this book there is the story about the recovery of the first production Whirlwind which crashed in Scotland at the height of the Battle of Britian. It had to be abandoned by the pilot after one of the wheels was damaged after take-off.
The wreck was recovered by Steve Vizard, Andy Saunders, Peter Foote etc during 1972. Apparently the results were impressive with wingpanels, both engines in very good condition, a landinggearleg with wheel and tyre, a lot of equipment etc. being recovered.
What I want to know is: Where did all these parts go to and if still extant could they be possibly available for the Whirlwind project.
