I was at the NASM Silver Hill facility with the Warbird Operator's Conference in March. We recieved a tour of the complete facility. Don Lopez (Deputy Director) indicated that the goal now is to assemble and prepare as many aircraft as possible for the Dulles facility that is under construction. Having the aircraft at Dulles will provide better preservation and will allow more of the public to see them. I think until the facility is finished you probably will not see too many indepth restorations started.
I for one, would much rather see the the NASM put their resources into restoring the American aircraft back to their former glory. After all this is our nation's aircraft consevatory.
When we toured the facility our guide couldn't stop talking about the Seiran, a rare aircraft, but certainly not very historically important in the over all context of the war, or aviation history for that matter. The Hurricane, which was also in the shop, recieved about a sentance of explanation, after 15 minutes on the Seiran. Several people noticed the disparity and commented on it
