I'd agree with EAW for ease of access, and it's dirt cheap too - ?5 in most shops now.

IL-2 is without a doubt the best there is but requires a lot of dedication to get the most out of it - very difficult initially, not something you can just pick up and play really. You can tweak the difficulty level and just put together a quick blast-the-bad-guys mission if you wish though.
