Buntes thought he'd been hit by heavy flak coming off the target, heavy, not light. Therefore big target, I assume Berlin Schnoefeld.
He hit a high tension power cable coming off the target. Having just looked at the electricity grid for Berlin, it may have moved, but power cables do follow the route of the Berlin ring.
He hit the cable, possibly only about 50' max above the ground. Too low to bale out, and too little airspeed to climb, he looks for a lake...
The time he has left , is not minutes, but seconds, at 200 mph , the maximum distance he can travel is maybe 6-10 miles from the target.
Once again, this is all supposition, but the final crash site, is in the Potsdam area.
If you look at the map.
http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?scale=150000&overviewmap=DE&coordsys=mercator&X=1455000&Y=6843750&gride=&gridn=&width=700&height=400&client=europe&db=DE&out.x=14&out.y=13
The airport symbol is Berlin Schonefeld, he is heading south east at this point, too little airspeed to turn or climb, he definitely wants to set up best glide angle and get in somewhere fast.
The distance from Schnoefeld to Potsdam Hbf (Diamond) is about 20 k or 12.5 miles. I would put the crash site, in the Kleinmachnow, Babelsburg area. If he stretched the glide , which i doubt, he was on fire, then the aircraft is down in the Havelsee...
Over to you......
