: Hi Steve.

Skysport's Beaufighter 1F. I thought about helping out at Duxford some years back, but wasn't entirely sure what I wanted to do, and so never got around to doing anything about it. Then a couple of years ago I noticed an ad in Aeroplane Monthly from Skysport looking for volunteers to help restore X7688 to airworthiness, and thought it looked like an intriguing project. I didn't really know a lot about the Beaufighter at that point (and arguably still don't!!), but I started helping two years ago and haven't looked back since.

I find it's very rewarding working on one specific aeroplane, especially one which is so rare and has such a history behind it. It's a kind of sanity check as well; sometimes you get so caught up in the normal daily grind at work, that it's hard to keep sight of what's important in life. Working on the Beau, and probably any warbird for that matter, makes you stop and think about the job she was intended to do, and the men who flew her and her kind. Puts a lot of things into perspective.
