........but I could understand if you were, taking into account all these stories about Spitfires in caves, there is also the rumour in FlyPast that a white Spit was flying somewhere in the outback etc. As I seem to recall the story about the Spits in caves was mentioned in Spitfire Suvivors but nothing more than that suggesting that is was just a rumour until someone could confirm or dismiss them.
I think, but Mick might have more information about this, that in the Northern Territory of Australia there must be some substantial Spitfire wrecks (among other aircraft types) out there, and the former scrapping site at Oakey where hundres of Spits were scrapped seemed to provide a lot of parts for restorations during the seventies and eighties.
Speaking of Aussie Spitfire wrecks? What happened to the substantial wreck of VB BR545 which was found in the late eighties in that region. I have seen video footage showing that it was substantially intact although recoverd in sections. Plans were made to fully restore it for the AWM but what came of these?
