Continuing reading Consolidate PBY Catalina - The postwar record.. by David Legg ..

My Recommendation is BUY THIS BOOK..

BTW Eric D and Gregory A are both mentioned in the credits!!

And it has the following bits of info:

a: Firstly in Lake Victoria (Kenya), a number of Cats were scuttled post war after parts removal at Kisumu

b: Also off the coast of Beaumaris North Wales their is a VERY SPECIAL and Historic Cat.. Model 28-3 c/n C3 - NC777 (2) named Guba. This was a pre war commercial PBY (of only 7 pre war commercials built) that went to PNG on exploration duties before WW2. Was the first flying boat to circum-navigate the world at the point of the greatest distance (approx equator). Was the FIRST PBY for the RAF (initially coded AM258 - incorrectly (Lib serial) then to BOAC as G-AGBJ and finally back to RAF as SM706 (209 Sqn). It then to Saunders Roe at Beaumaris and was used for equipment fitting testing (non flying). Then was scuttled off Beaumaris 10th August 1945.

Finally, though I have not got to that bit yet.. Maybe some info on those Portugese Cats off AeroConda (sic) for Tracey of HARS. Tracey.. I have David Leggs email address if you are interested He posts at Air Britain? Contact me off board
