Karen,

I think it all depends on a certain individuals personal experiences that makes him/her still "hate" their former enemies. Someone who had to do hard labour on the Burma railroad would not have any positive feelings left for the Japanese.

If we look at former aircrew they considered fighting each other on even terms (even bomber command crewmembers I spoke as opposed to their chances against German nightfighters), the outcome of the battle being decided mostly by skill, luck etc.

If we consider the relations between governments and their former enemies that is just a matter of politics. You just have to look at todays news what I mean. Sometimes I even think that politicians are the real enemies.

My own personal opinion of course, not meant to offend anyone.
