....last friday evening some chap visited me at home because he was interested in some surplus instruments I had. He is working on a Spitfire cockpit section replica, to be made of metal.
He is in the good position to have access to the airworthy Dutch Spitfire which is based at Gilze Rijen. He showed me some full scale drawings of the instrument panel as well as the sutton harness installation and the port side of the fuselage. He also told me that he has a cd-rom with hundreds of spitfire drawings. He asked me if I was interested in copies of the drawings, I said I was and he gave them to me as well as promising to make a copy of his cd-rom with Spitfire drawings. If he keeps his promise then I would be a happy man. He also gave me a blank instrument panel (no instruments, just the panel with holes etc.) When I checked it with instruments, they fitted beautifully.
Another case of luck striking again.
So MickM, if you ever want to make a Spitfire instrument panel, you know where to get a drawing.
