: I believe what you are referring to is "Duralumin" which is an alloy consisting of copper, manganese, magnesium, and aluminum and was developed by Vickers, Ltd. It can be heat treated and aged to bring the tansile strength up to 160,000 psi which is in the high tensile steel range. It was used for aircraft structural members, spars, propeller blades, and even connecting rods in engines!

The only problem you would have with the application you mentioned, is that it cannot be cast, only drawn, forged, or rolled.

"Almag" might be a better way to go as it is an Aluminum/Magnesium alloy used for crankcases and is stronger and lighter than aluminum without the corrosion characteristics of magnesium
