Magnesium parts can be readily replaced with an Aluminum alloy. A recent P-63 Kingcobra restoration (Frank Borman's) had to have every magnesium component (rivets, castings, sheet metal, etc.) replaced due to loss of strength because of age.
The downside to Aluminum is less ease of machineability than Magnesium and increased weight. But your new Aluminum part won't start crumbling after a few decades.
