It almost seems like a sacrilege to paint over that original scheme this late in the game (almost 50 years after the plane was pulled from Navy storage).
The scheme in the picture is blue, although I'm pretty sure blue Corsairs and gray Corsairs stood side by side on the tarmac during the service years. I'm still fairly positive that the AU-1's were the only Corsairs with the overall gray scheme (with black reflection strip).
I've seen the Yanks Air Museum's F4U referred to as an F4U-4B quite a few times, although I'm not sure where that information originated. It's most definitely a plain old F4U-4 though - the 'youngest' one in existence. I wish we had at least one example of a -2, -4B, -5P, and AU-1.
I always thought it would be neat for someone to take a basketcase FG-1D and build a replica of the XF4U-1, complete with the little bomblet bays in the wings :)
