Pacific Dumpsites

Found a book in the Palm Springs, CA library that was written by a gentleman describing his life and travels as a recycler/scrapper in the 40's and 50's. It is a small volume publishing, and I will go back to find the book and post for all to see. Apparently large lots of tanks, aircraft? ect were offered, even in their buried state to scrappers that smelted them for profit up until the early 1950's. Some items, such as special Packard PT boat engines were so valuable on the market that they were shipped to Burbank intact to be verified scrapped by the USN. This could help the record of depots and dumps in the Pacific to be more complete. I will see if I can find the book, but does anyone else have any data on this?
