Cowley aircraft dump........

Looking through the FlyPast forum archives I found another dumpstory:

.........Cowley during W.W.II and are full of stories regarding the factory and the aircraft graveyard. Apparently many wrecks were off-loaded from trains and trucks at the Watlington Road railhead and then ultimately dumped (sometimes ammunition and all) in trenches dug on the land between there and the Garsington and Horspath Road and on the "now" Blackbird Leys side. Some of these guys were apt to liberate metals and compass components from the trenches for "onward" recycling and personal profit. Makes you wonder if some salvageable components still exist under the earth around there............

Probably known, but who on this forum lives nearby to check this out?

Cees
