Having just reviewed the current listings under the P38 saga I thought it best to set a few things straight.
1) All war relics are the property of the PNG government as dictated by the War Surplus Material Act. This Act empowers the National Museum charges the Museum with the administrative control over the all war surplus material.
The land owners are not the rightfull owners of the material. When a relic is removed they are merely paid compensation for their care of the relic.
2) I have not removed any P38s to Australia. When I do I will let the world know.
3) The PNG authorities are currently searching for the persons responsible for the attempted illegal export of the P38 at Arufi. The aircraft has been found. Unfortunately the salvage attempt involved cutting off the wings and remaining attached boom with a gas axe.
4) RE: Melbourne Export -watch this space
