Luciano - The R.A.F is part of the Ministry of Defence.
The period of which she was allocated to be flown was extended after engine trouble . She was due to be retired very shortly after the crash - out of interest why are these
decision's made by 'ill informed bumbling old desk jockey's'? I was under the impression that the actual decision was made by the Historic Aircraft Commitee within the Mod.
Regards your other points you cannot substanciate any allegation about the pilot in command of the aircraft at the time of the crash. It might actually surprise you but the aircraft did belong to the Mod and it would not be unnatural for a high ranking RAF Officer to be actually flying their own aircraft ! I seem to remember seeing picture's of AVM 'Boz' Robinson flying Hunter's out in S.A
so maybe the is life in the 'old dogs' after all !
It's great having these discussion's about who should have been flying her but in reality both service ex-service and civilian pilot's make mistake's and luckily in this case we still have the pilot and the machine to look at.
The reality of the Me109 / Buchon is that they are less forgiving than other type's and the Mod was well aware
of this - they viewed that the was a risk involved in the operation of the machine and sadly this was proved to be true . The are other '109's' on the way which risk far less
1940's metal as a percentage so maybe we should be patient
for the first to fly again in the U.K.
