The March 2002 issue of Air&Space Smithsonian magazine had a feature article on some of the major aero-engine builders in the U.S (Mystery Aire, Vintage V-12s, JRS Enterprises.)
See "Masters of the V-12", March 2002.

In addition to nice color photos of engines in progress, the article talks with the builders about their 30-plus years in the business.

It did mention that during a DB601 rebuild (no mention of David Price), Mr. Nixon had to have a magnesium reduction gear cover custom made at a cost of about $20,000. It was mentioned that the high magnesium content of the German engines makes it difficult to find a good one to start with and that two donar DB601s were needed to complete one engine. The total costs of the rebuild was close to $300,000, plus $100,000 for the engine cores. Mr. Nixon mentioned in the article that because of the high costs for just a single component he felt that new-build engines were not practicle.

However, I'm still hopeful that demand will overcome the costs and more new engine components will be made just as new airframe components are manufactured today.
