Though I do feel it important that the buildings are preserved. At Kenley I was a staff cadet gliding instructor when the ops block was pulled down, and that was upsetting, however Kenley airfield is still largely in place, as common land, which it was , before an RAF Station was built on it. Large areas of Hornchurch still remain intact.
West Malling makes me laugh, the locals objected to a Kent County council plan, to turn it into an active airfield, for cross-channel traffic, which would have left the airfield largely preserved. Now they have a freezer trailer depot on top of it, and 10x the noise they might have had..lol

Yes it is important to preserve airfields if we can, but at the end of the day, housing the population, in some cases, does carry precedence
