Hi all,
Last saturday we finished the recovery of Lancaster R5572 which crashed near the tiny village of Baak in the eastern part of Holland.
During the preliminary investigation in January a lot of interesting items were found. The recovery of last saturday proved that the remains of the aircraft were pretty well cremated judging from the large area of burnt aluminium. Due to the dense soil penetration of the wreckage was limited to some 1 1/2 metres. Some interesting items were again found among which the thermostat of one of the engines and part of the landinggear were the largest.
All items will be preserved and put on display shortly in time for the opening of our museum at the beginning of May.
Cheers
Cees
