Not sure it was that much, but there was an extreamly high attrition rate in training. I think that's the problem today. The service Jadgflieger, especially the seasoned Experten had many hours logged on their beloved 109's whereas today an owner/operator will be constantly swopping around between various aircraft and not building a substantial amount of hours on the 109 to be able to be fully comfortable with it's nasty habits. I only wish that the likes of Gunther Rall could be given the chance of taking one up in the air again so we could all see how it's done!!! I'm sure even after all this time it would be like putting on an old glove....obvisously though that won't happen, but it's a nice 'what-if'...
