I know that a BMW801 in good condition was dug up from someone's backyard somewhere in Germany and is on show at Laatzen in excellent condition.
When I visited North Weald airfield in 1998 I saw two BMW801 engines in really good conditon at the back of one of the hangars (I think the one with all the ex WoGB aircraft in containers). Someone who worked there told me they had been recovered from Russia. The metal was still gleaming. I wonder where they went. We have seen a lot of aircraft being recovered from the former Soviet Union but what about engines? Must be many of those still around.
