Just did some digging through my notes. I have plans for a Wag - Aero Cuby (observer) this aircraft is a homebuilt with a very very low cost to operate. Given the amount of talent in this group on all continents it would be possible to pool resources from one kitty and build an aircraft for each continent represented. With engine (C-85 - O-200) you are looking at $15,000 per aircraft, and that is a high estimate. As a homebuilt...at least here in the states you can perform your own maint. and upkeep. Parts are readily available and it is easy to fly. I know this goes against the grain of obtaining a heavier piece of iron...but this is realistic and doable for such a large globally spread group. There are no special training programs to enter to fly this type of machine and your cost per hour is dirt cheap...even in the UK. The only real long term expense is engine overhaul which is around $5,000. Money you don't spend on the DC-3 buys alot gas!

1. ease of construction
2. represents a significant piece of history (replica)
3. affordable
4. easy to fly
5. easy to maintain
6. obtainable insurance
7. popular at shows (everyone has a yellow cub)
8. components can be bought tack welded
9. Garuantees you a spot in the warbird parking
10. easy to hangar
11. there is hardly an airport that can't handle a cub

Sorry if I sound like a broken record on the L-Bird idea but in doing some number crunching it would be tough to support a big multiengine a/c without $1000 shares.
