: Rob, it was lost on May 10, 1987 after an airshow at Brown
: Field near San Diego. Marshall Moss was the pilot.
My mistake. 1984 was the year Mr. Guilford tranfered title to the aircraft over to his 'G&R Aviation Enterprises'.
I had the chance to spend some quality time with BuNo.133693 at Oshkosh '86. It was the last time that ship would attend the event, and the last I saw of her prior to her being destroyed. The remains showed up in 1992 at Ezell Aviation in Breckenridge, Texas to serve as a parts source for the restoration of the Lone Star Flight Museum?s F4U-5. From the looks of it there was absolutely no resulting fire from the 5/10/87 accident. Every last piece of the F4U-7?s wreckage was intact, albeit mangled almost beyond recognition. It made me wonder how much fuel might have remained at the moment of the accident.
