Aero News reports that "Obsession" pilot Jeff Michaels was flying N551CB "Glamorous Glen III" when the accident happened. Both aircraft are based in Salisbury, NC.

Below is part of the article with a history of N551CB:

Glamorous Glen III is painted as a companion aircraft to Old Crow. It is owned by Gary Honberrier (Old Crow is NASCAR tem owner Jack Rousch's machine). Its home base is Rowan County Airport, in Salisbury (NC); and locals tell us its regular pilot is Caudle. (Obsession is kept nearby, at Jim Michaels's private strip.)
In earlier iterations, Glamorous Glen III has carried different paint, insignia, and N-numbers. S/N 45-11381N first shows up in the registry as N5471V, in the early 1960s. It was crashed in 1981, we hear, by Ed Browning; and it was rebuilt in 1983 as racer Flying Undertaker, #66 (C-GRLR, owned by Ritchie Rasmussen). In 1985, it wore two numbers, N151MR (for owner Mickey Rupp), and later as N551CB, its current tail number, for Connie Bowlin. The machine was registered to its present owner (listed as Carrier Aviation Inc) in 1990.
