Hiya Mick.......
Noooooooooo He's a man in Birmingham, but u know how big our Muslim population is, wouldn't surprise me, if some high-up in the Syrian Military has his home here!
But that's what makes it a whole lot easier, there's nothing like being able to get your accreditation sorted, BEFORE you start your in depth planning.
But of course, this is a look see trip, just to make sure. However, there is also a very big freshwater lake, close by, in line with the wartime runway, and I'd like to see if the french ever dumped anything in it, you know how magnetic lakes are to aircraft, it's a real x-files phenomena! -lol
Soooooooo, in addition to Spits, we're looking for.....
French Kit, British Kit, Italian Macchis,Fiats and Savoias, Harvards, maybe Marylands and possibly, something nice and German. I still think, for some reason, that Turkey gave FW190-A8's to Syria, i'm just not sure why I think that :0)
According to WorldAirForces, Syria operated the following of interest..
Avro Anson " 48/49 6
Beech D18S, C-45 Expeditor " 49/74 4
deH. D.H.82 Tiger Moth {F} 46/ 30 D.H.89 Dragon Rapide 54/56 1
DHC DHC-1 Chipmunk {F} 49/80 30
Fiat G.46-4, -5B " 49/58 40? .
" G.55A " 50/56 <40? *D
" G.59-2A " 50/59 26 .
" G.59-2B " 50
Junkers(AAC) Ju 52/3m(AAC1) " 49/53 7
Macchi MC.205V " 51/ 10
NAA T-6 Harvard {F} 48/58 10 *
Percival Proctor " 46/ 4
Supermarine Spitfire F.22 " 54/58 40
Now, I believe Paul Millan may have a piccie, of the Spits, and having recently spoken to his holiness the "Spitfire Pope" - lol and he has definitely seen piccies too
In terms of other aircraft operated in Syria......
http://france1940.free.fr/vichy/ada_syri.html
(Vichy french order of battle, Syria)
and errrrrrr loads more, so I'll have to post in chunks..
Tony :0)
