:I checked the Warbirds
: Registry and the Living Legends web pages and discovered t
: hat one of them was 124669/N4901W, however I have not been
: able to identify the other. Here is a description...
:
: - might be an F4U-4 (but I am not an expert)
: - USN markings over all dark blue
: - a yellow tip on the vertical tail
: - "112" on the cowl
: - "12" on landing gear doors
: - "F" on the tail
The first Corsair was actually BuNo.124560 which was owned by David Burnap at the time. He sold the plane in September of that year to Raymon F. Thompson of Kalispell, Montana who has since had the plane repainted in the approximate markings it wore during its tour with VC-3 squadron during the Korean War.
As Stephen pointed out, the F4U-4 you saw was BuNo.97359 which at the time was owned by Norm Lewis of Louisville, Kentucky.
