I don't think anything became of them, I'm certain the lake in question is Lake Victoria near Mildura, several aircraft crashed into this lake during training at No.2 OTU, including a couple of Mk.Vc Spitfires. I read somewhere that the lakes water level gets very low approximately every 7 years.
