You need a copy of the BSI Catalogue, which shows what superceded what. There are modern specs.
S1 steel became S154 (eventually!)
L1 Aluminium became L163 for sheet material and L168 for bar stock. (roughly)
The majority of the spit drawings refer to these, but make sure your pintle studs are S97 or an equivalent - there is an AD on this, publised a couple of years ago after the TFC aircraft 'fell over' on the ground.
