Some of the stories turn out to be true:
There is a book about a famous P-51 in a garage, that turned out to be true: "P-51 Mustang Restored" by a Paul Coggan (yep!).
Within the last couple of years, report in an aviation magazine about two (?) Ryan PT-19 stored inside of a barn or a garage-like structure in California. Turned out to be true.
Last year, a Howard DGA I saw in San Antonio, came from an abandoned airport in Mexico (the new owner had heard so many things about an airplane inside an abandoned warehouse/hangar) and turned out to be true.
NOW, there are all those others, who turned out not to be true. My biggest problem when growing up, was that almost everyone I knew, had heard about a Mustang but had never seen one up close. So for them, any propeller driven fighter, WAS a Mustang . . .
I guess something similar happened to you and those aircraft in Spain.
