I am sure the Globemaster
: is more capable than the Hercules - certainly it must be
: more comfortable !
Having spent a few thousand hours in the Mighty Herk over the years, and currently having 1700 hours in the C-17, I feel the need to comment. The C-17 has the Herk beat as far as performance, but I don't think it has the service life. I also don't think it has the toughness. It's basically an airliner with a cargo door. Both can land in the same distance, but the herk can land on narrower runways. As far as comfort goes, I think the only place the C-17 beats the C-130 is the fact that it has a latrine like an airliner and two fairly comfortable crew bunks. I still would rather sleep on the red web seats in the back of the mighty Herk, listening to the drone of the props. As soon as my time in the C-17 is done, I am going back to my home in the C130.
